Well, apart from that there was his:
Foreign policy (ended up at war with the rest of the world - fortunately the rest of the world was stronger)
Financial policy: Prop up an inefficient state by stealing money from various weak people, when they run out of cash start a war. Oh, and run your war industries very inefficiently right up to the end (this was the major reason German production soared in the last year or two of the war - it was so chronically inefficient previously)
Media policy: Tell the lie, the whole lie and nothing but the lie, with major net problems for your economy.

Err… that’s about it really. The guy was an unmitigated buffoon who could give a good speech to a country where democracy had never taken root. About the only good thing that can be said about him is that he’s now dead, and the occupation forces were able to do a reasonably good job of removing his influence from Germany.

Other citizens of countries in a similar position (much of South America and Africa) should take note of what happens when you mess with what Churchill so accurately described as “The Great Democracies”.

ok ok,all done, stay now on topic,if you want to discuss democracy and military juntas, make a topic.

Goosestepping and other forms of ‘silly’ ceremonial marching are, as has been pointed out, often features of extreme and/or militaristic countries.

I don’t know if its related, but Goose stepping often seems to be present in the armed forces of countries which are either fairly new, or which have totally reformed in the 20th century (eg Russia, several times!). I have often thought that that is because marching, in western European countries, is part of a tradition stretching back to a time when what are now ceremonial and drill movements/formations were battle formations. In newer states which did not ever fight in this way, or in newly recreated armies (the Red Army) drill has a purely ceremonial function, rather than being part of a tradition, so all sorts of impractical marching styles become popular.

Just speculating really!

Personally, I think that Goosestepping, raising your leg to the horizontal and so forth just makes a formation look like a big bag of wank, but thats just my opinion!

The goose-stepping is from the Prussian army, which became the part of the German army. In the mid 19th century most armies were copying he Prussian /German army. One of these aspects was the goose step. The imperial Russian army marched in a similar way. When armies moved in close formation they had two seeds, quick march and slow march. Quick march for moving around and slow march for moving into the attack, as keeping in formation was more important than getting to the target. The drill pigs have adapted a tactical method of moving into an exaggerated one for show. Think of the British armies slow march.

So by copying a successful army you are making your army better, and Prussia was very successful in the mid 1800s.

I still think they got some help from the ministry of silly walks!

I heard that the MSW had a whole wing in the Reichstag.

before or after the fire?

Probably the entire reason they couldn’t put it out in time - ever tried carrying a fire hose through a burning building while doing a silly walk?
