As I recall it being described, the German military had very lax standards for latrine sanitation, basically the troops would drop a deuce where they pleased in the desert, with no effort to cover their work. The ever present flies would make the rounds of latrine, people, and kitchen, which gave rise to the ensuing tummy troubles, and dysentery. The English had stricter regulations,or at least practices to keep the flys away and this helped keep their men out of the hospital.

My uncle was in the desert with the 8thArmy.
According to him, a man could find himself on a charge of “Neglect of Duty” should he be so careless as to be less than 100 yards away from the nearest tent, let alone aid station, cookstation, or mess area when he had to lower his trousers.
Apparently, as RS* said in a Vietnam-related post, it was a chargeable offence to allow oneself to become incapacitated through illness. This included coming down with dysentery or the clap.

The man nearest the camera in the left row is not pissing at a regulation angle.

The man nearest the camera in the right row is trying to make out that he has a huge bratwurst by using both hands, when in fact he appears to be pissing through his right index finger.

Both men are blots on the Heer’s proud memory.

I assume that they were both disciplined by the pissmeister standing between the rows with his hands in his pockets, apparently having a gay old time.

Hmmmmmmm, there seems to be a lot of head turning along the line. Should the pissmeister really be the Poofmeister?;):shock:
