M1A1 Thompson

Nice pic of the german Thompson up there, another .45 caliber weapon used by the germans was the Norwegian Konsberg M1911 pistol some were captured but then were especifically produced for them.

The main reasons why the Wehrmacht adopted these captured weapons, mostly for non front line use, with important exceptions, mostly Russian field and AA artillery.

  1. Hitler’s inssitence on minimizing the impact on German social and industrial status until late 1941 at least, he did not WANT a war economy / believed in a short war STILL? Chicken and egg. Production shortfalls were an ongoing problem.

  2. the sheer numbers of weapons captured with heaps of ammo - in Russia, and in the west, the weapons and their entire supply, production and maintenance trains!

While writing my memories see:

I am trying to track down any detail possible on Browning .45 SUB-machine gun (not belt fed machine guns, BAR, nor pistols), which I had never heard of before

My search so far indicates that Batista forces subject to US embargo in 1958, had purchased these weapons somewhere else.

It would seem that Camilo Cienfuegos took several of these weapons in Las Villas, possible after taking Batista army strong position at Venegas, Las Villas, Cuba in October of 1958. They it is presumed were subsequently given by Camilo, (under Castro’s orders) to the, up to then, poorly armed communist guerrillas of Felix Torres (who would become notorious for his murders of surrendered anti-Castro resistance fighters between about 1960 and 1967) in Cuba’s middle provinces.

It would also seem that these same Browning submachine guns (not BAR, etc ) eventually reappeared in Vietnam where they were captured by US forces.18 March-21 April 1967

Does anybody know such details as manufacturer, characteristics (I only have a photo so far, in which it appears to be similar to a Thompson)

Any detail, however small or vague it may seem, would be much appreciated
