Random fact of the day (Rommel)

IMO, von Manstein’s (eastern front) idea of letting enemy advance and then cut them out-of-supply was great, and they should have tried that somewhere.

I fully agree. The fact was… and your right… the German army was weak after the defeats of 1943. They had too much to do…with too little. But we can agree that something had to be done… Hitlers insistance on holding every last piece of ground… (in the east) was only gonna end in disaster. The Germans had plenty of room… trade space for time… counterattack when the Red Army was overstretched. The end game might of been the same… but it could of prolonged and who knows… but history is history.

But 88 was immobile, easy to spot, easy for artillery or airattack to knock out. Or without destroying it, just move your tank 2000 meters to the different location and go around it. 88 was heavy to drag around, so they would have needed fuel anyways. What’s the point building such weapon?

There are problems with each weapon (in this context)

Yeah… No one really wins here. It was a great tank killer… but easy to knock out. If you can destroy 2 tanks for every 88 knocked out… is that worth it… I dont know.
