Songs/music about the War's

Ship Building by Elvis costello ( Falklands )
Pills and Soap again Elvis Costello ( Holocuast)

Billy Bragg did a one about the Falklands though the name escapes me I can remember the lyrics.

I think there are much more songs about the Vietnam war then any other War,… the songs from WW2 are normally just sang around that Era not specifically sung about the war.

For e.g Glenn Miller - in the mood

My Old Iron Cross - Harry Champion 1915 (The Great War)

The Tanks that Broke the Ranks - Fanning and Fortune 1916 (The Great War)

Do you know the lyrics ?
Was Glen Miller a famous singer ?

The Wall album by Pink Floyd.

it’s cool!

Motorhead - 1916

Iron Maiden - The Trooper, About the Battle Of Balaclava, during The Crimean War (Only remembered because I bout the two vinyl singles this week)

Rolf Harris

Two Little Boys!

MY favourite War-song has no doubtly have to be Redgum-i was only nineteen.

I recommend it to all you guys, all his words he sings tells you what happened to him and about agent orange and bloodshed.

it’s a cool song! .

Thanks mate the song was top of the pops from 1978-1983 and the singer was actually in Vietnam, so hes not just singining about someone else.

I also listen and like them argentinian songs you sent me erwin, thank you

no problem mate  ,but they are more rock/pop songs for listen than for the war.

except that of charly with the cannons!

You got that right…anything from Creedence is great.

About the malvinas war:

Song: Antiheroes Singer: Don Lunfardo

ENGLISH:

That 2 of April began the war
with 18 years we went to fight
to Margaret Tatcher her government was felling
and the Malvinas Islands fell to him of the sky

A well armed lion defended its empire
ours boys and in the middle of the desert
the guns did not work, the things did not arrive
and Galtieri sucked another Whiskey more

We lost so many lifes for a pair of islands
signing decrees of general amnesty
the hand of God did not extinguish my pain
the war of the forgetfulness was the one that killed us
the hand of God did not extinguish my pain
shout the antiheros of the ’ 82

and a Yankee arbiter directed the party
with the t-shirt of the English pirate
but this is not all my dear friends
with the number 9 Augusto Pinochet

NOTE: this is a song, from the persperctive of a common argentinian person, its not for insulting,i know that we have so many wars inside the forum, and i just wanted to show a song without bad intention,it’s also in topic,I put the lyrics in english, because i translated the song, and maybe it has errors.

WW1

It’s a long way to Tipperary

Hang out the washing on the Siegfried Line

I want to go home (where the whizz-bangs won’t follow me?)

On the London Underground

The film “Oh What A Lovely War” is full of songs like this

WW 2

We’ll meet again

Lilli Marlene

Colonel Bogey (Hitler has only got one ball)

Camoflage was sung by Stan Ridgeway, ex of the Wall Of Voodoo

Rosie, don’t take your love to town - ostensibly about a Korean war veteran, but very popular during Vietnam era

Many songs by Stiff Little Fingers are Northern Ireland related (saw them last Friday for the first time since 1981, still bloody great)

My bold…  HA HA HA thats really funny… can you post lyrics for that song by any chance??

Hitler has only got one ball
The other is in the Albert Hall
His mother, the dirty fucker
Cut it off when he was small

She threw it in a chesnut tree
The north wind blew it out to sea
The fishes got suspicious
And had bollocks and scallops for tea

The tune Colonel Bogey is the music the POWs whistle in ‘Bridge Over River Kwai’
