You’re absolutely right there - the flaw was in not doing the same as the allies did. Their skilled pilots/aces were withdrawn from frontline service and would spend a tour or more teaching new pilots. This radically increases the quality of the replacement pilots, and hence there are major improvements in overall pilot skill. The Germans didn’t do this, which led to an ever widening disparity between the few experten and the mass of pilots, who by the end of the war were little more than targets. That was a major strategic error, and one that IMHO was to an extent replicated across the entire German armed forces (it was more severe in the Luftwaffe simply due to the nature of aerial combat).
