The F4 Phantom is proof that with enough power even a brick will fly. A deadstick landing in one of those was referred to as a ‘crash.’

The HE-280 flew in 1941 and was more manoeuvrable an aircraft, in a dogfight no less, than the FW-190. Had this aircraft gone into production WW2 could have been very different.

Given how quickly the aircraft was designed and put into production it was a wonder it did not have serious flaws but, while it took a skilled pilot to fly, by all accounts it was a nice aircraft.
