That’s a T-34 Obr 1942, nicknamed “Mickey Mouse” by the Germans because of the two mouse ear like turret hatches. The presence of a T-34 and the Gelateria thing makes me (semi-wildly) guess it’s the NOV in Istria or Friuli region in 1945…?
Well, whatever it is, you couldn’t get it licensed today.
The exhaust smoke puts a destroyer (of the ship variety) to shame when trying to make smoke.
Thankx FTG, i wasn’t sure about the tank. But, if this is a Russian tank in Italy, they can only be Jugoslavian Partisans and the only place in Italy they entered was Trieste. So let me try Tito’s partisans, Trieste, 1945.
NOV = Narodnooslobodilačka vojska, aka Tito partisans.
BTW, Trieste is located in the Friuli region, isn’t it?
I’m sorry FTG, i didn’t know that the NOV acronym would mean “Tito’s partisans”.
Trieste is, of course, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. For our luck, Trieste was the only Friuli’s town where the Tito’s troops entered, for the simple reason that it lies just next the Jugoslavian border. Since May 17th, 1945 the whole area was garrisoned by the USA 10th Mountain Division. In order to prevent Tito partisans to advance further toward west, they lined up on the Morgan Line, along the Isonzo river. (see map) So, the only area where the partisans made their “acts of bravery” was the Carso.
Bingo guys, I´m really impressed with your cooperation
This is in fact one of the NOV´s T-34/76 entering Trieste, 1945
Here are the nominees:
- Rising Sun*
- Skorzeny
- FTG
And the award goes to… FTG - your turn, mate!
Mr. Skorzeny -> Thx a lot for the distinction
It’s just a clear instance of German-Italian-Australian cooperation… But the real mind behind the gang is flamethrowerguy, that guessed everything. As far as i concerned i’ve done wrong everything, include the name of the town in my Country…
I’ve just posted, with some delay, the Friuli map…
That’s life…
Dear Mr. flamethrowerguy,
the thousands of thousands of “Where and when is it?” thread fans, are still in a long, painful, but always patient, wait for your next puzzle… We’re scared that the most we wait, the most difficult it’ll be…

Sorry about the delay…I’ve been far away from my sources lately…will go for another puzzle tomorrow!
Bump…FTG or would you like to pass to someone of your choice ?
Right, guess it seems I’m busier than expected…if you got an appropriate puzzle at hand you may proceed, Sir…
In this case I suggest Mr. Rising Sun* or Mr. Skorzeny can address the next question.
Nah, rudeerude bumped it and FTG passed it to him.
Ok ,here goes might be an easy one.

It should be Operation Shingle on January 22nd, 1944. The Allies amphibious landing in the area of Anzio e Nettuno, south of Rome, Italy.
Ah can’t sneak one past you skorzeny57.Correct
It really was an easy one, like you told… Anyway, here’s my next. Our good friend Rising Sun* would say “easy for those who know, hard for those who don’t…”
Who, where and when?

Right stab in the dark here, i’m going to say 1942-ish, German troops training for Operation Sealion, north French coast?
Hi Iron,
they’re, of course, German troops. The original caption of the picture says “German Assault Boat Engineers…” But is a different Country, different Operation and different year, too. I can tell you that they’re preparing an Operation in a Northern European Country…
ps - nice new avatar!!!
