Hiya, Sergej!

I can’t actually find a picture, but I think it’s the ANT-51, that eventually led to the Su-2.

Ant-51 image attached. Clearly related, but not the one.

The Su-2

This is a Su-2:

And this is what we’re looking for:

There is a connection, but this is not made by Sukhoi.

Some hints:
The designer was very popular at this time,
but he didn’t have seen the end of the war.

These machines were made for a competition for a light bomber/
reconnaissance aircraft.

Perhaps our mystery airplane is that sorrowfully neglected Polikarpov “Ivanov”, my dear Mr. Sergej? Here you have a direct link:

In the meantime, as always – all the best!

You’re right!
In 1936 the VVS started the competition “Ivanov”.
The aim was to get a replacement for the Polikarpov
R-5. The new aircraft should take the role of a close-
range bomber, a ground attack aircraft and a
reconnaissance aircraft. Sukhoi, Neman and Polikarpov
took part in this competition. Sukhois aircraft was the
only one which made it to the production lines.
I’ll tell you more detailed about this aircrafts in the
experimental aircraft thead later.
And now, please proceed Librarian!
