WW2 aircraft

Good morning Uyraell
this is the Bugatti R100 a concept of 1937/38 which however never flew and is nos being exhibited in a museum in France I believe
Cheers

Yes dear Wingsofwrath it is indeed the Letov S-231 belonging to a family of fighters which saw action in the bloody spanish civil war.
A great lineage produced by a small nation of great tradition in aviation matters!

Good morning Carson 1934, my friend.

Yes, you are correct.
The airframe was discovered in a barn in the mid 1990’s by an American, who decided to restore it to display condition. Both motors had been removed post-war to power Bugatti race cars.
By the late 1990’s the airframe had been restored and hung from the ceiling beams in a museum as a display piece, while plans had apparently been made to construct a flying replica of the Bugatti R 100. I am unaware if the replica has yet been constructed, as I have heard nor read anything about it since.

For an airframe designed in 1937, metal cut in 1938, and constructed in 1940, I have always considered the Bugatti R 100 to be an exceptionally beautiful aircraft.

In line with protocol, the next riddle is yours, Carson1934.

Warm Kind and Respectful Regards Carson1934 my friend, Uyraell.

{Also: post # 1000. :slight_smile: }

Thanks very much Uyraell for your kindest confirmation…
May I now submit to your attention gentlemen following light weight twin engined monoplane which notwithstanding the fact that only one item was produced was configured in two rather different versions (version of my pic was the ugliest!)
Good luck
cheers

That, I believe, is an RWD-11. (RWD being the initials of the designers, I assume - Stanisław Rogalski, Jerzy Drzewiecki and Stanisław Wigura) And you’re quite right Mr.Carson - it is rather ugly!

Good afternoon dear Ealdwita
Yes you’re right it is the RWD11 a polish aircraft of 1936 and thanks for explaining the meaning of this acronym RWD.
We are now looking forward to your next challenge
Cheers

“Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more.”

Greetings gentlefolk,

That is the Bereznyak-Isayev BL-1

Ah, beaten by 8 minutes!

Nice seeing you again, Mr. Kiwimac!

I also see that the board has moved quite a bit in my absence…

On the nose, kiwimac! Well done.

Let’s try this one:

Good day Kiwimac

I’ve seen your drawing somewhere on the net a long time ago…I only remember it should be a japanese concept…but I can’t say more at this stage…If this proves instrumental in helping some other forumex well I’m glad…
Cheers

A Kawanishi Baika Type III?

(no need for landing gear!)

Well done, Ealdwita! Exactly right! Yours’s I believe?

Thank you. Let’s see how long this one takes you. I make no apologies for the bad photo! (Pretend you’re making an identification in poor visibility!)

Ref the previous challenge - ‘Baika’ means uhmu blossom, ‘Uhmu’ being a sort of Japanese apricot. (Just in case you were wondering.) OK, I’ll shut up now, sorry.

Hi
Your photo is terrible but could it be a Fizir Vega AF2?
Carson1934

No sorry. Because it is such a bad picture, I’ll give you some clues.

Strictly speaking, it wasn’t a military aircraft, but the one in the photo belonged to a Royal Air Force squadron in the 1940’s for extremely specialized missions! A British-made machine BTW.

I’ll give it another couple of hours and then end your misery. It was more of a trick question than a serious one! I couldn’t resist it though.

It’s a right sod of a plane to find.

It wasn’t a fair question really, so I’ll come clean.

This, in fact was a powered glider - a BAC Drone de Luxe - G-AEKT, with a Garden Ford engine, painted in WWII colours and belonging to 609 Sqn. RAF, who mounted a 12-bore shotgun with a ring and bead sight and used it for recreational wild-fowling to suppliment the rations in the Officers’ Mess!

I shall stand down now in disgrace and let a worthier hand take up the reins!

Rather than have this thread bog down I’ll kick off again with a fairly simple challenge ro make up for my past disgrace!
