37th infantry division in Manila; looking to identify the GIs in photo

the GI holding the M1 carbine looks like my father. he was in manila at that time and carried a carbine. he was wounded by a jap handgrenade along with another GI. does anyone know these GIs?

I’m not even sure this was from WWII, the uniforms almost look like Korea…

My wife took a closer look at the uniforms also. She was wondering if this was a staged photo. The uniform accessories didn’t look right to her. My wife is a retired LTC, Montana Army National guard and was in Desert Storm in a Public affairs unit taking staged and real time action photos and videos. That’s why she wonders if this was staged. I’ll print out the photo so she can take it to a military historian friend to get his opinion.

One thing that stands out is that the M1 Carbine doesn’t have a bayonet lug in the photo, which was standard issue by Korea.
