50 mm round removed from back

Undetonated mortar round removed from back of Private Hugo Turunen. Rukajärvi, July 8, 1944. The 50 mm round hit him in the upper back and traveled under his skin until it stopped just on top his left buttock. The mortar round went only few millimetres away from damaging his spine.

Amazing he survived, could have cut right through some vital organs. My back really doesn’t like the thought of it either.
