While in the “who’s on line” section, I noticed an MSN bot viewing a member profile:

I know that they gather info from posts, but should they be in user profiles?
Some forums block user profiles to those not registered, some don’t. In that case, it was probably someone pulling up that letter sequence while doing a search I think…
Spiders go everywhere they have access to. I don’t see it as a problem. You might get forum spamming (people registering, then posting a link in their profile, but never posting in the forums), but I dis-activated profile links.
