This is an early variant of the StuG III, most likely an Ausfuhrung B or C. The following D and E models had a rectangular shaped container on both sides of the fighting compartment. A StuG III abteilung (battalion sized unit) in 1941 had 18 vehicles - three batteries with six vehicles each. Stug III variants B through E had an L/24 75 mm. gun.
