With a period washing powder advertisement on the building behind.
I can guess the thrust of the sign but can any German-speaking person translate it accurately?

During my childhood in Australia in the '60s, Persil was my mother’s preferred clothes washing detergent.

It translates something like:use Persil, get a good washing

I use Persil now, it’s recently come back into vogue in the US after getting good consumer reviews in various publications. Now it’s a blue liquid though, pretty much on par with Tide…

A more accurate translation would be "Persil - Well kept should be your laundry."
