An Army at Dawn

I highly recommend the book written by journalist/historian Rick Atkinson regarding the final Anglo-America assault on the Africa Corp in 1942…

Very good background and he spares no one from critical analysis…

Is this book avialable in the internet to read?

I don’t think so, it’s too recent…

I imagine it will eventually be translated into Russian though…

I was wondering if you could tell me if it is in 1st or 2nd point of view. I am not usually big on the 3rd person point of view books. Please reply to this message Nickdfresh.

I’m not sure what you mean. It’s not a novel if that’s what you’re asking. The author serves as narrator and covers a wide range of topics from Roosevelt’s and Churchill’s strategic considerations down to the daily ordeal of the enlisted, NCOs, and junior officers…

He tends to focus a bit though to provide a narrative example of what WWII was like for the average soldier. For instance, he follows an Iowa National Guard division to show how the American Army started somewhat poorly because they were very green and under trained, then improve and began to excel as they gain experience…

Just bought the next in the series:

“The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944”
