Huh, I’ve heard of that. Pretty weird stuff.
The idea had merit: increased range, using up the fuel in the overhead tank first. And the fuel tank/wing provided increased lift to compensate for the extra fuel’s weight. Trouble was, nobody had given any thought to the safety issues around a stray 38ft wing careering out of control around the sky when the pilot released it. :shock:
