Anti Communist Group Question

At first I thought maybe this question belongs in the ‘General - Off Topic’ part of the forum, but on second thoughts, it does actually belong in the WW2 part because it was an event directly linked to the Soviet victory over Germany after WW2 so here goes…

Can anyone tell me anything about an anti communist group calling itself ‘The association of June 17th 1953’ please?

It is a German group which commorates the ‘East German Uprising’ against the communists takeover of East Berlin on that date.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Louise

I think that 17 June 1953 is the date of the General strike which the DDR/USSR put down using the military, ending any illusion that the “German Democratic Republic” was going to be anything other than an oppressive Communist dictatorship.

Try Google and Wikipedia…

Thank you for your reply. I thought as much…Apparently this group exists today in some form which honours that ‘uprising’ against the communists in East Germany.

I did look on Wiki but found nothing. I will hunt around a little more!

Regards,

Louise

Maybe try some German sites…google translator will help … a bit anyhow.
