Because I haven’t a clue, other than reading that some American soldiers loved to capture and eat them for the sake of variety. But not necessarily because they were better, just a change of pace. I believe this was reciprocal as well. And something about a cheese product that was in a toothpaste-like tube that GIs seemed to love!

I find it odd that even with the anti-smoking champaign in Germany, and the number of top leaders against smoking, that a ration of cigarettes would have even been considered much less enacted. They called it “nerve tonic” but I’m surprised it passed.
