I find it amazing how we classify World War One as the 'War to end All Wars", when we still seem to be fighting the affects of it’s after-glow some 93 years after the first round went down range. So many problems and wars have risen out of either the short-sightedness of contemporary politicians of the time, the need for revenge both personal and national on all sides, and the lack or a real cohesive plan that if Wilson’s 14 points were truly followed, might have made Herr Hitler go back to being a vagabond artist. The need to disrobe Germany by mainly Britain and France is well known to have been the grist that allowed the NSDAP to gain control over the German people. The post-colonial and Imperial break-down started during WWI with its nadir being the late 1950s-early 60’s with all the post-partem warfare and nightmares that have followed. Our greatest enemy for 40 years after WWII was of course the USSR, (Communism and all the problems it has brought),being a direct resultant entity of WWI. The problems of the middle east to include the Israeli-Palistine problems are all direct results of the narrow-mindeded short-sightedness of both the French and British leaders in their arbitrary division of the Ottoman Empire by way of the Sikes-Picot treaty of 1919, thus creating artificial countries like Yugoslavia, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, etc.
In this soldiers view, we are still fighting WWI. America by default after round II in 1945 became the heir to the British Empire. What do you think? The floor is now open.
That’s an interesting few points you made…makes alot of sense to me.
