Argentina now in Africa

The 2009 Dakar Rally will start in a week and run through Argentina and Chile which, as it’s still the Dakar Rally, must mean they’ve been moved to Africa. PK will have to get a much deeper tan, and maybe an Afro. http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/presentation/us/r3_5-le-parcours.html

Yeap, unfortunately Africa is today too much dangerous for the pilots, and the Turism board here was fast enough to use that situation in its favour, the race will bring several euros to the country so no harm done.

Ill try to get some pictures of the cars when they cross our province.

Except to the people of Africa, who relied on the tourism push during the Rally;)

But I agree, the situation in Africa seems to be worse at the moment than usually, so it’s just right for them to move it, though I thought a main part of Dakar was driving through the desert? Are they going to exchange that with driving through the Pampa?

Anyway, I’m still somewhat interested in it - and I know my Spanish teacher is already pumped for it - she’s Argentinian.

Sorry about the africans but I guess the pilots prefer to countinue riding without being kidnapped or their head blow off.

In the patagonia there is some stages wich had nothing to envy to africa with dunes and all. The chilean Atacama desert is the driest zone in world so you can figure out.

Don’t jinx it

P.K. they are just coming for the wine & Asado, so guard your larder,

You just never know. I’ve never been to Argentina, so I don’t know how common Gaucho are. I mean, I know I would be pissed if the Rally would go through Germany and their logo was a guy in Lederhosen…

Nobody would be offended for that.

Believe or not in the Tv they show a yellow SUV stopping and the copilot grabbed a bottle of wine handed by one of the spectators.

The guy must’ve either had such a lead he thought he could afford it, or was so far behind he didn’t care anymore

Probably:

Yesterday the race became definately sour, the british driver Paul Green had an accident and is in serous condition ( induced coma) and the french biker Paul Terry had an accident the sunday …but due some failures in the organization ( frenchs organizers I must say) it was found only today, dead unfortunately. A heart attack is the probable cause.

VW seens to like the climate in Argentina
Didn’t they win the double?

Sure do, De villiers arrived first and Miller second. Sainz had a real bad luck if not VW would made the 1-2-3.

By the way, this was that Carlos Sainz accident in the province of Catamarca 16th january due some bad route signing ( not his fault), really nasty, fortunately he could walk away of it.

Sainz was the favorite of many people, specially in teh Cordoba province place in wich he won 2 Wold rally championships.
