Australian Infantry Slouch Hat

Iv had this slouch hat for a few years and wanted to know if anyone knows anything about it. Its got a stamp which says fairefield, Melbourne and number 56 on it, there is also a date which is faded and cant be read any info would be great.

The Capbadge looks like the Royal Australian Infantry Corps, this was formed in 1948 and became a Royal Corps in 1953.

The Puggaree is of the modern 7 fold variety but I can not date when it was adopted.

Most slouch hats I have seen have the rising sun badge on the turned up brim.

Fairfield in Melbourne were making these hats in the 1980’s, the capbadge itself looks a bit too brightly polished to be brass, if it was British I would say it was something like staybrite metal (anodized aluminium) which would put it later than the 1970’s. The manufacturers mark is usually on the back of the badge.

the badge says swann and hudson
