Bodies, Mass Graves Found on Iwo Jima

amazing after all these years

TOKYO – Two mass graves that may hold the remains of up to 2,000 Japanese soldiers have been discovered on the island of Iwo Jima, one of the bloodiest and most iconic battlesites of World War II, a report and officials said Friday.

A team of Japanese searchers has discovered 51 remains in two areas listed by the U.S. military after the war as enemy cemeteries, one of which could contain as many as 2,000 bodies, Japan’s Kyodo news agency said Friday.

Iwo Jima today – it’s still a gut-clutcher

The guide for this trip asked the Marines to rush this dune to get an idea of what the Marines
who took Iwo Jima faced. Every step you take up, you slide down and into the dune. You
have to work hard to get to the top. Imagine doing it with 100 lbs on your back while being
shot at and artillery raining down on you.

That rush up the sands must have given those Marines just a glimpse of what the greenies faced that day. And they didn’t have packs on, or weapons, or helmets.

And if any of you have seen the films of the landings on Iwo, you will see them land with no real problems then all the sudden the beach just startes erupting with explosions all over as the Japanese fired in unison.
