Bombers over New York

Japanese propaganda depicting a Japanese bombing raid on New York City.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://ww2incolor.com/gallery/art/52485/bombers-over-new-york

Interesting that this propaganda poster depicts a Japanese attack on New York, being on the East Coast of the US and thus definitely out of the reach. I would have rather expected a city on the West Coast like for example San Francisco.

Was New York so much more well known among the Japanese? Or was the intention to show something like an ability to "strike at any place"?
