Bombs over the gas chambers

The bombs dropped by the B-24 Liberators of the 15th Air Force’s 464th Bombardment Group, based at Pantanella Airfield, Foggia Airfield Complex, Southern Italy, during the bombing of the IG Farben synthetic oil and rubber plant on September 13th, 1944, seeming fall over the gas chambers at Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim). In reality the bombs continued on their ballistic route and hit the factory while a number of stray bombs hit Birkenau too and caused light damage. The formation of the camp is clearly visible, as is the train standing by the platform (Transports in the photo). Victor Sierra
