Following his bare survival in New Hampshire, Jeb Bush seems to have “activated” a family resource, bringing brother and former President George Bush Jnr into the battle. George Jnr seems, in any case, to have been a bit hacked off by various comments on his Presidency on the part of the Don. I gather that Georges Snr and Jnr both remain popular with many Republicans, so this could be significant. It needs to be. Jeb badly needs a success of some sort in Nebraska and/or North Carolina. Will the emergence of his brother improve his chances ? Time will tell.
I am a bit of a politics buff, and find US politics fascinating. I also find them largely incomprehensible. I think I have a better idea as to how things in North Korea. I am willing to entertain the view that populism has its place in politics. However, whether on the grounds that he is most plausible candidate the Republicans can offer in the General Election, or whether it is a question of who is best qualified for the Presidency, there would appear, at least to me, a very strong case for selecting Jeb Bush. Instead, we seem to have a slate of populists, lorded over by - Gods help us - Donald Trump, someone with no relevant experience and a tendency to spout poisonous nonsense. Not that populism is exactly unknown where I am (we have a General Election here in the Emerald Isle, and the way things are going … oh never mind, too depressing). But Trump ?
Anyway, I will be interested to see whether North Carolina might be a turning point. No predictions to offer, though … Yours from South Fork, JR.
