THE British home secretary, Theresa May, has confirmed that protesters made contact with the Duchess of Cornwall when her car came under attack during demonstrations in central London.

The Rolls-Royce limo carrying Prince Charles and his wife Camilla to a West End theatre was targeted on Thursday during a mass student rally against increasing college tuition fees.

Press photographers caught the royals in a state of shock as a window was smashed and paint thrown over the vehicle after it became surrounded by a mob.

Reports later emerged that Camilla was struck with a wooden stick during the attack.

Referring to the incident, May said: “I don’t know about the term ‘poked with a stick,’ but I understand there was some contact made.”

I can’t resist making the observations that:

  1. Camilla has plenty of experience of being poked with a stick. And sundry other things.

  2. Camilla’s first experience with a stick was being hit with the ugly stick.

Bloody students. Who comes to a ‘peaceful demonstration’ tooled up snooker balls, metal spikes and other missiles. They should have turned the water cannon on them or given them a real cavalry charge and set the household cav on them. :evil::evil::evil::evil:

The same sort of students who, in my distant youth, turned up with batteries and sundry other things to throw at the cops in their pursuit of planetary peace.

Nah, the students (which often was an unfair descriptor for a bunch of committed but lazy leftist ****wits whose connection with study was even more tenuous than their connection with paid, or even unpaid, work) down here in my day used to roll marbles under the police horses. Quite effective. Even admirable from a guerrilla tactical viewpoint, being a simple tactic for which the enemy had no effective response to counteract the loss of its horse superiority. Plus the plunging and falling horses caused problems in the enemy ranks. Simple, but effective.

Although it was before my time, the specific for “troubled youth” of the rural/suburban sort was a 12 gauge loaded with rock salt. This cooled their ardor,(if not their backsides) and also encouraged them to bathe.

Well apparently they’re back in London this week to ‘protest’, apparently though the Met are considering using water cannon this time. Personally I feel they should be using Northern Ireland tactics, that might check their desire to vandalise public monuments.

Are these “students” legitimate, or is this the work of the Anarchist Rabble that travels to wherever there is trouble to get into.

Bit of both, I’d say the majority (80%+) are students but there is a fair amount of rent-a-mob from the usual socialist/anarchist suspects. Also most of the students are from 3rd rate unis as well, any serious student is currently trying very hard to get all their essays/coursework in before the end of semester this friday.

Thought so, I was in Scotland during the G-8 summit some yrs ago, came through the day before the Bus bombings in London. I recall most of those present for demonstrations were kindly, and peaceful. But the rent a thug types were there spreading their Bolshoit. No better use for modest rock salt than these folks.

On the plus side, it does prove there are people out there other than the PoW who would touch Camilla with a stick :wink:

Unfortunately, dear old Charles miscued in his pursuit of Droit Du Seigneur imho.
Given the plethora of available titled nubiles in his now distant youth, I think the man could have chosen much better and much wiser.

In Amerikanskiy PoW = “Poor old Walt” but in English as spoken by the British PoW = Prince of Wales.

This abbreviation, iIrc, goes back to the First World War, and is recorded in the signal log of HMS Iron Duke.

That may be apocryphal, though I recall some discussion of it when I was in my teens, many moons ago.
