Clauss Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg - WW2 Hero

Clauss Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg, was born in 1907 the minor of three brothers of a family of noble of very old ancestors. He grew up in a Renaissance castle that was the cradle of counts and Dukes. From very young he was educated in the principles of the responsibility and the obligation. When he was young, Claus demonstrated artistic abilities, wrote poetry, was member of the Stephan Group George and touched violoncelo. It developed a passion by the horses which allowed him to acquire horse-riding abilities that gave him a place in the German Olympic team. He acquired knowledge in languages and he spoke Greek and Latin. When young one thought that he would be musical, but soon it showed inclinations by the architecture and he thought that could be his work, but taking care of the familiar tradition it decided to follow the army at 19 years. Like cadet, the future one appeared to him promissory because he showed great ability in the military studies. In 1930 he knew Nina von Lerchenfeld of 17 years descendent of the Bavarian nobility. They married in 1933. The following year his first son was born. In 1936 he entered the Academy military of Berlin and gave samples to have qualities to be an official brilliant. Like many career military persons, he was excited when Hitler took the power, wanting for the end of the chaotic situation raised by the Republic of Weimar. Nevertheless he pronounced himself politically like monarchist, but according to him not by the monarchy in himself, but to have one better constitution than the one of Weimar. During the campaign of Poland and France he showed his abilities in the 6th Panzer Division. In June of 1940 he was transferred to the High Command of the Army. During the Barbarossa Operation he passed most of the time in Russian steppes. One was opposed when he found out some actions perpetrated by the SS in the USSR. The disaster of Stalingrad was crucial for Stauffenburg, he considered that it was an unnecessary sacrifice. When Stalingrad fell, he requested his transfer, but he also asked his superiors to do something in that matter. Obviously his friends senior officers did not think that it was a good idea, but the seed was seeded. The decision of his superior was translating him to Africa assigning him to the 10th Panzer Division in Tunisia, for participating in the battle of the Passage of Kasserine. In 1943 he was seriously damaged by a mine, he lost the left eye, the medics amputated his right hand and part of the arm, two left fingers, he had injuries in the left ear and the knee. When leaving the hospital, he went to his house to recover his health. Before, while he was in the hospital in Munich, he managed to approach dissident groups that formed the Resistance. Instead of retiring, he requested to remain in the service. In the summer of 1943, he decided to take the responsibility to save Germany, he had the lieutenant rank by then Colonel and belonged to the General Staff of the Army. he took the control from the conspirators. They forged several attacks against Hitler, but all failed by diverse causes. Most inconceivable it was the attack of the airplane where they placed a bomb in a box of champagne, but the bomb did not explode. he formulated many plans to assassinate to Hitler with the aid of inferior officials, generally in good condition in the Front of the east. his plan was to eliminate the Fuehrer and to take the power, immobilizing to the SS, opening the political prisoners of war camp and looking for the peace with the allies. There were several involved senior officers in the attack, including a von Manstein and Rommel. In July he was promoted Colonel and it received the position of Chief of staff of the Army Commander-in-Chief. In such position it was in direct bonding with the Fuehrer. The 20 of july of 1944, put the bomb under the table where a meeting of General Staff was made in the refugee of the Wolf, with the presence of the maximum heads. Immediately he left that place and went to Bendlerstrasse to wait for the consumation of the coup d’etat. Hitler survived and the coup d’etat was ruined. Captured after an attempt to resist, he was jailed, a summary judgment was done to him and was executed that same night of 20 of july of 1944 at the age of 36 years.

Well he noticed a little late, but unless many other people who didnt notice at all or who ignored the rumours of the KZs he tried something.
