Corpsmen In The Pacific

Can someone please tell me what they changed Corpsman to while fighting the Japanese? The Japs kept calling Corpsman and then would shoot them when they came to help. It was changed to something the Japs couldn’t pronounce right. Like they say brew instead of blue. Thank you.

Don’t know anything about that change of name, but a couple of good choices to confound the Japanese would be the original term of ‘loblolly boy’ or the later ‘pharmacist’s mate’.

But that would require the American troops to remember those names as well, and use them in distress.

Thank you very much for the reply! Those names don’t sound familiar. I saw a show about it a few years ago on either the History or Military (AHC) channels. I can’t find any info about it anywhere.
