Seriously, what the heck are those?

The Transcaucassian overgarment, the cherkeska, normally has bandoleer-like pectoral pockets in various numbers ranging from five to seven on each side. The small pockets were meant hold cartridges or gaziry. With the modernisation of firearms, the holders for paper cartridges became obsolete, so the were replaced with pieces of turned wood with decorative nielo or repoussé silver caps.
