Found this while looking for information of German soldiers.

Hi Guy’s
I was in Normandy in 2004 and 2006 Walked the D-DAY Battle Fields.From the British 6th Airborne on the East to the 82nd 101st Airborne on the West and every thing in between.
This is my first Post.

I visited the Memorial/museum at Caen in 1999. Took the train from Paris and back. Great way to see the countryside. I have included some scans below of train tickets, post cards and guide books that were bought during my visit.

Did not make it to the American Cemetery as I was short on time and had to catch the last train back to Paris that late afternoon.
Did buy the post cards at the Memorial though.

Hi George
We went to the Amerian Cemetery spent over 2 hrs I know all the Pics. We spent 2 weeks in Normandy. left Canada 24 May 2006 spent time in the UK took the Ferry to France arriveing Caen/Ouistrehan.
I will look up some pics over weedend.

Hi Gerry,

Sounds like you all had a great time. I wish that I could have spent that much time there. As it was, in 1999 I spent most of my visit to France in Paris with a side excursion to Caen in Normandy. The next time I go Normandy will be my primary focus.

I did pass through Dunkirk and Northwestern France in 1983 while vacationing in England and the Netherlands. Took the Dover - Calais route across the English Channel.

Hi George
We started our trip in the UK staying at my friends sister home in Portsmouth.
we then took the ferry to France arriving Caen/Ouistreham. We then went to Vimy Ridge Ypres Belgium and Holland.







We then went back to Normandy to start our D-Day Battle Field tour.











That was my trip Left home 24 May returning 12 June 2006. Brian my friend nows French so we had little trouble and we had a place to stay.

These are great - nice shots of the German fortifications, and various famous sites from D-Day, and the American Cemetery. Looks like you were able to visit the First World War battlefield at Passchendaele as well. Thanks for sharing these beautiful images. :slight_smile:

We got as far as EED Holland where this Carrier is now a Memorial to the Canadian 7th Brigade

We wanted to visit Vimy Ridge but it was under-construction for the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge(1917) in April 2007.We went on to Ypres Belgium where we witnessed the ceremony at the Menin Gate at 20:00 the Last Post is played 365 days year.We then went through Paschendale on our way to the Leopold Canal where out 2 Regt’s fought together The Royal Winnipeg Rifles and the Royal Montreal Regiment.Then we went back to Normandy via Dunkerque Calais and Deppe. The next day we started our tour of Normandy.

I noticed that you made it to Holland. In the southern Netherlands is a battlefield, cemetery and museum at the site of the largest tank battle fought in Holland during WWII - the battle of Overloon. I visited the battlefield in the spring of 1979. They have a great many armoured vehicles on display as well as a very interesting museum.

Stayed just behind Omaha beach for a few days last summer, and took the opportunity to walk over the beach.
All I can say is that my respect for the men who took it has gone through the roof since doing so. Even against only a second rate WW2 defence and armed yourself with modern weaponry, it would be a very, very hard nut to crack. The beach is totally dominated by the dunes which start just above the high water mark, and the beach exits are very restricted and dominated by the dunes as well.

At the end of the war the 1st Canadian Army was in North West Europe 5 Div.3 Infantry 2 Armoured most were in Holland on V-E Day.
