Guys i found a few impressive photos of WW2 emergency bombers in air.
B-17 lost the tail assembly by the bomb that dropped from the bomber above.
B-26 losing the engine by the flaking artillery.
It’s interesting ,has it the chance to reach the airfield?
If there is no fire, or one they can deal with, and the wing is still in one piece, it might go on for a long time.as long as one engine is running at full power.Fire is the big issue, if it reaches the fuel tank, Adios.

Sure PZ i had no any doubts. My personal experience of computer simulators (IL-2) prompting me the arcraft with a such serious damagings has no any chanse to stabilizing the turning airodinamic moment. (especially for the so long distance back way).
In your photo of B-26 without left wings - the airplain also had no any chance - the losing even 20% of area wings is critical for the fly ( espesially the hard aircrafts like the bombers).

Depends exactly what you’re flying and how close to the tip you lose the wing. I know of one case in the UK where a glider lost about 2m off the tip of the wing and landed safely (full opposite stick and rudder, descended in a smooth spiral to land in a field). I also know of a case in France where a glider lost half a wing (a free-fall parachutist was jumping through cloud and hit the wing, breaking it off). That crashed, with the two crew getting out at 200 and 50 feet above ground respectively. The impact was at about 6000 feet (2km).
I think USAAF B-17 pilots had a grim saying; to paraphrase: “Who needs escort fighters when you have B-24s flying with you?”
The B-24s flew lower, and made more tempting flak and Luftwaffe targets.
There’s also some footage that is frequently used as “stock footage” where a B-24 is hit by a bomb dropped by a plane flying directly above, right where the wing meets the fuselage, causing it to burst into flames predictably…

- Blackburn Ripon at Nurmoila on 16th June 1942. Probably a near hit from AO-10 on night before.
- Finnish Tupolev SB (coded “SB-2”) fell down on a shooting range shortly after take-off from Malmi Airport, Helsinki in 1942.
