dead Franz Ziereis
was the commandant of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp from 1939 until the camp was captured by the Allied powers in 1945, and was found by the US army on 23/05/1945 in a cabin in Pyhrn area in Austria and was shot during an attempt to arrest him. He was taken to a military hospital and interrogated in the presence of former inmates. Two days after he was capture, he died of his wounds. This picture shows what liberated inmates did to his body after death.
