I first saw this photo decades ago, while doing research. I am pretty sure this is taken in Normandy. It is a US Signal Corps image; note marking in lower corner.
Thanks Huijgens. Flamethrower, how do you find a previous posting of a particular image? Can anyone else advise on how one can quickly search through these large collections?

I made myself some kind of database about the photos on the site some time ago. However I failed to keep it updated. So, to some older photos I do have the links. It’s a pity that the software doesn’t come up with some admin features to keep an overview of the uploaded photos. Meanwhile I tend to keep some reposts and delete the old versions, just to enable input of the new site members.
