Decorations off!

An american MP removes the Iron Cross 1st Class from the uniform jacket of a german POW. The decorations remained in the holding of the POW but it was not permitted to be worn. USA, 1944.

Nice photo. But a question: Notice the cap on the german soldier, wasn´t that cap with those insignias wore by the afrikakorps? If so, this photo can´t be from 1944, but from the first half of 1943, tops… Comments please… :slight_smile:

It looks indeed like the DAK-Feldmütze but the later Einheitsfeldmütze Mod. 1943 was developed on this pattern. BTW, a lot of german POWs remained in the UK for some time before shipped to the US. Just another possible explanation…
