The precise circumstances of Wittmann’s death, and the identity of the shooter responsible, are still the subject of some debate, in spite of oceans of printer’s ink expended on the subject since 1944. The fragmentary nature of the surviving evidence may prevent us from ever knowing. Best regards, JR.
