Hahaha, I love Asteroids.
It’s a bit of a theme you sort of have to be at least a casual music/Van Halen fan to fully get. But in essence, it’s a joke regarding the often contentious rivalry/feud between “Diamond” David Lee Roth (the original and current singer of Van Halen) and Sammy Hagar (who’s head is the alien ship) who took over when Roth left in 1985 and a feud erupted between fans over which version was better, etc…
It’s sort of an ongoing soap opera, but a bit of a dated one I guess…
They semi-original lineup reunited last year to do a tour, but with Edward Van Halen’s (whose face/likeness is one of the asteroids) son on bass…
I’ve always been a Diamond Dave man and was shocked when they split back in the 80’s. However “Eat’em and smile” was brilliant (also because of Steve Vai). “Why can’t this be love?” would be the only tune I remember from the Hagar era.
BTW, what’s up with Michael Anthony (I didn’t follow the band’s history during the last couple of years)?
