Disaffected Belgian officer

Thoughtfully a captured Belgian officer sits next to the entrance of Fort Embourg near the town of Liege, May 17, 1940.

Neutral the gun that resembles a BAR appears to be a FN Mle 1930 or the later Mle D. Fabrique Nationale purchased the rights to manufacture BARs in the 1920 and modified the design for sale to Poland as the wz. 1928. Afterwards the wz. 1928 was further modified as the Mle 1930 which was adopted into service with the Belgian Army. In 1932 the Mle 1930 modified with a quick change barrel and designated the Mle D.

Thank you very much for the complete info, Dixie Devil.

Are you sure he’s captured? There’s a lot of abandoned rifles in his vicinity.

Yup, the crew of Fort Embourg surrendered about noon that day after a devastating Stuka attack lasting several hours.
