Hard to argue with your comment Nickdfresh. We always referred to our service as "California National Guard" even tho our yearly inspections were done by a regular Army officer and our summer manuevers (1940) were against the "Washngton National Guard" and supervised by a General named Stillwell.
I’m just quibbling over semantics here, but if he was in the National Guard, then he was in the U.S. Army to an extent–It is the Army National Guard after all. Though technically he may not have been federalized in his tenure with the California Army National Guard. Regardless, they’re still considered under the purview of the U.S. Army :-)…
