The Elefant was extremely heavy and slow. This meant that in practice it was better suited to the role of assault Gun than that of Tank Destroyer. Most were used in Russia. The Elefant had a powerful 88mm Gun. (scanned by HOS Bandit)
This is a list I found of 654’s losses. A few are unknown. Only 3 are by Infantry (KS bottles) and 2 of those were also hit by shells (possibly immobilized) as well. This would seem to lay the myth that all were killed by infantry to rest.
