Eurovision Song Contest: Sir Terry Wogan may resign over bloc voting row
Terry Wogan has threatened to resign as commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest over an Eastern European bloc voting row.

Wogan, whose sardonic commentaries have enlivened the competition for 35 years, said the event was “no longer a musical contest” and suggested that Western European countries should also consider pulling out.
His remarks came at the end of a contest that saw the Russian entrant, Dima Bilan, win the contest in the Serbian capital Belgrade thanks to the support of his Eastern European neighbours.
Wogan’s irritation has been fuelled by long-standing suggestions that the voting system is a fix with judges from different countries forming political alliances that overlook any possible musical merit.
The row has escalated recently, with claims that Eastern European countries have formed the musical equivalent of the Warsaw Pact to squeeze out their Western rivals.

Eurovision song contest as seen some controvercial voting in recent times. So much so, that the British public has lost interest in the competition. However, there is a drive afoot to rekindle the UK’ interest reclaim the countries former promince in the competition.

The intrigues while granting of points in the Eurovision are as old as the contest itself, e.g. nil points for Germany from Austria was as sure as death and taxes. However this Warsaw Pact redux gives a whole new quality to it, maybe that’s why Germany keeps on sending mostly fun-acts recently.
The only weapon of the west against this new threat from the east would be boobs&arses.:mrgreen:

Fortunately the Eurothingy isn’t broadcast down here at a time any normal person is likely to care about it, but if they have a boobs and arses act (or just boobs, because I see arses every day all day at work) I’m willing to stay up.

Anyway, to come back to the ESC: I think it has become a ridiculous farce years ago. That North Africa and parts of the Middle East are allowed to take part in a European Song Contest shows that it has become more of a political showing of allegiance than a real singing contest…

It’s a joke that should’ve been abolished years ago, but somehow just keeps going…
