Expand Other Wars?

I’d like to see another forum for all wars fought prior to the 20th century for the Revolution, Napoleonic campaigns, or the American Civil War…

As everyone else is ignoring your brilliant suggestion, I might as well offer an opinion.

Sorry, but I don’t support it. :frowning:

I think those are specialised areas which already have enough fora (Latin plural of forum, to show that I’m a fully qualified smartarse  ).

This site needs to build traffic on what it already has rather than diluting it by spreading into areas of little interest to most members and of insufficient depth to people who really know those areas.

I mean, how do you think a serious Napoleonic or Civil war buff is going to respond to Herman the Second asserting that the main tactical mistake in each war was failing to nuke the other side to stop the proliferation of Japanese cars which undermined all that Henry Ford did for the good of the USA?

Agree with RS.
Those areas are pretty specific IMO.
Besides, think yourself Nick, how i can glorify the Great father all of peoples comride STalin in the thread about …Napoleonic wars;) This is impossible:)I mean if i will , the Rising Sun finally would be convinced that i always drunk in forum…but i/m not…always.
Well may be the separate key events of 20 centure could be very interesting for us… fro instance the Americano-Fillipino war would be very interesting to study the way how still to be called the “stronghold of democraty” ,slaughtering the local peoples to death:)
But for god’s sake, Nick , we have more then enough ot such possibilities in Cold war section;)
Also the J…o-Bolshevic “revolution” in Russia is very interesting…but don’t even let me go…you know why:)

But think of the glory of Mother Russia defeating Napoleon’s invasion!

And you’re much more fun when you’re drunk --which isn’t often enough!

The Bolshevik Revolution fit’s very neatly within the WWI forum I would think, even perhaps the Russian Civil War since it was parallel…

And you can exaggerate American atrocities in the Philippines in any related forum.

And leave out pertinent facts like the Filipinos did most of the killing and that it was as much of a civil war and tribal war is it was a ruthless American counterinsurgency campaign. But yes, a ruthless US Army “pacification” campaign it was…

I see the Russians learned much from it in Chechnya.

BTW, you left out how Americans and British loyalists/Army terrorized, assassinated, raped, and tortured each other during the American Revolution. Or how US forces burned Canadian villages to the ground resulting in a British campaign of punition during the War of 1812 (including burning my hometown of Buffalo to the ground and massacring much of the fleeing garrison)…Or how Americans terrorized each other during the US Civil War.

There’s plenty of dirt on all countries, Chev…

I think perhaps you misunderstand the scope. It would just be an add on, very general forum to other wars and a nonspecific place to discuss or to put threads that don’t fit into any room besides “Off-Topic Militaria.” But if that’s the case, why have any other war sections at all?

Fair enough.

Why not try it and see what happens?

I can’t wait to see Herman the Second’s contribution to a thread on the Second Punic War and how Hannibal should have nuked the rock (not to mention nuking the Romans to stop their successors inflicting Fiats upon the world and undermining GM and Ford, like anyone who’d buy ford or GM would be seen dead in a Fiat) rather than using fire and vinegar.

Or if the Roman’s hadn’t been such pussies and used the hydrogen bomb on the barbarians, Rome would be the center of the world! And Fiat would reign supreme over Volkswagen, Peuogot and BMW (those Gaulish and Hun bastards!)

Not to mention reigning supreme over the British motor industry, which despite a couple of millennia of development after the Romans invaded still managed to nuke itself by the 1970s.

Oh pish and tush, I don’t see any Aussi cars on the roads.

That’s because by the 1960’s we were already so far ahead of the rest of the world that we’d exahausted all automotive possibilities, as demonstrated by the mighty Lightburn Zeta which boasted models of incredible power, speed and glamour. Unfortunately it didn’t sell well, although I would have thought it would have been popular with post-war Italian migrants with Italian armoured experience as its top speed in reverse was the same as forward - 60 mph!

Wait till Chevan sees this. A tool, cement mixer and washing machine manufacturer starts producing a car that makes the Lada Niva look look like a Mercedes. Sounds almost like Russian industry.

It’s all part of our flexible industrial approach. Around the same time, a lawn mower manufacturer started building aeroplanes. http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/stats.main?id=381 And there wasn’t even a war on to explain these industrial curiosities!

I do, the new Pontiac G8 is simply beautiful! Finally, GM wises up and gets Holden and Opel to enrich their DNA like Ford did with Mazda…

The Brits have made a comeback with the Mini though, but my God! How did you people screw up what was essentially a Honda/Acura (the Sterling)???

The “Sterling?” And I thought the British had a better developed sense of irony?

We let the Poms have some too, as Vauxhall Monaros.

Top Gear likes them.

And here’s why any red blooded bloke wants to get his hands on a Monaro. Or two.

[The place] has been called Monaro for a long time, but previously it was called Maneroo, with many variations. Interestingly, it is believed that the name Maneroo is derived from an Aboriginal word which originally meant “woman’s breasts”.
