German infantry and ''Hiwi''

Good-tempered german infantrymen marching along with two russian ''Hiwis''.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://ww2incolor.com/gallery/german-forces/19880/german-infantry-and-''hiwi''

Is “hiwi” another german nickname for the russians? I’ve heard of “ivan” and “russkie”. (We also called russians russkie in the US)

"Hiwi" is the abbreviation for "Hilfswilliger" meaning "voluntary helper" (wiki-definition: Eastern European volunteer "helper" to the military). Sorry, actually I wanted to explain this in the caption.
