Is “hiwi” another german nickname for the russians? I’ve heard of “ivan” and “russkie”. (We also called russians russkie in the US)
"Hiwi" is the abbreviation for "Hilfswilliger" meaning "voluntary helper" (wiki-definition: Eastern European volunteer "helper" to the military). Sorry, actually I wanted to explain this in the caption.
