About the modern Hellenic Army was formed shorty after the creation of the State in 1828. The first tactical army battalion was established in August, 1828 after the respective order was given by the first head of state of the independent Greece, Ioannis Capodistrias. The new tactical army would replace the irregular military bands of the capetanei (καπεταναίοι - commanders) who had led the revolt against Ottoman Empire in 1821.

1919-1922 :
* 15 May, 1919 - Greek troops land and occupy Smyrna (İzmir), meeting only token resistance: this will become the opening skirmish of the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922).
* 9-11 January, 1919 - Greek and Turkish forces fight the inconclusive First Battle of İnönü.
* March 1921 - Greek and Turkish forces fight to a stalemate at the Second Battle of İnönü.
* June 1921 - The Greek advance is checked at Battle of Sakarya.
* 26-30 August, 1922. The Greeks are routed at the Battle of Dumlupınar. Cut-off in a Turkish pincer movement, Major General Nikolaos Trikoupis and his men are taken prisoner. Surviving Hellenic Army units begin withdrawing to Smyrna.
* September 1922 - The Turkish Army captures Smyrna.

1923-1940 :
Period of “relaxing” for the Army after World War I and before World War II . The only thing that should be mentioned was the development of the Mannlicher-Schönauer rifle which was the primary rifle of the Army During the World War II .

1940-1941 :
The Epic years of the Army . The Epic fights of the Army on the Albanian borbers against the fascist forces of Bennito Mousollini . After that an attack on Bulgarian borders on the Metaxa line (bunkers which built between 1932-5)
and the defeat of few brave soldiers against the unstapable german war machine , Greece surrenders .

1944-1949 :
The years of the Civil War for which every single one greek is disapointed .

1950-present :
No activity of the Army
