Hi, there !!
Quite a “lesser-known” fact: in May 1941 the RAF training school in Habbaniya,
Iraq, was besieged by the Iraqis, backed by the Axis… the Habbaniya base
hold out bravely awaiting for the rescue forces from Jordan.
The whole story is quite well detailed in A. G. Dudgeon’s “The war that never
was” (Airlife Publishing Ltd).
Makes you wonder “what if” the Habbaniya base would have surrendered with
the Axis then profiting of a “behind the lines” bridgehead… it would obviously
have had to be “fed”, not an easy task at all, but…
Miao.
