here it is a tradition - like splinter already mentioned - that rabbits/hares bring the easter-eggs. this comes from the old pagan custom that is strongly related to the human copiousness… so young folks around here get little rabbits made out of chocolade as easter-presents.

Yeah, I seem to remember a children’s show on German TV during Easter 1983. The host of the show was an elderly German man with a big mustache, and he was filling a stuffed rabbit doll with chocolate eggs through the rabbit’s rear. I assume that the chocolate eggs were dispensed the same way. Might be a connection with the joke. But maybe not, the obvious is one is missing his rump and the other his ears (what?).

The show kind of reminded me of an American children’s television show from my childhood called Captain Kangaroo.
