Hearts of Iron Doomsday

Hi guys…

For those of you who like strategy games this is a must have:

Hearts of Iron Doomsday

The most complete strategy game ever made, one can play the full campaign that spans from 1936 to 1953 or several minor ones including a U.S vs Russia clash.

You can play any nation on earth, although to start the best one is Germany, simply because it’s forces are more concentrated (unlike for example, the British), and your only problem, at first, in terms of suplies is oil. One has to have a good balance between attack, defence and consolidation. units experience, moral, upgrades, terrain and weather play a major role. Diplomacy also, specially in keeping the russian giant neutral long enough so that one can conquer England and close the western front, from there you can either attack the U.S. or turn your attention to the east, or the oil fields in persia.

I played also with Japan (weak), the U.S. (boring at first because they only start fighting in 1941, and you cannot declare war because your a democracy, but it’s fun rebuilding the army and air force from scratch), the british empire (need some experience in the game) and the russians (boring at first also because their industrial power is small and the rebuilding only starts for real after the “gearing up for war” event).
You can choose the leaders of each unit, this are not all available at the start and keep showing up each year according to the year they achieved the rank that alowed them to lead at least a division, you have to keep maritime suply routes to overseas territories and keep a pool of transports and escorts, you can spy on your enemies and friends, etc…and the list goes on.

The graphics are quite simple but the details of the game per se are great.

It’s a somewhat dificult game to master at first, but after that it’s months of fun with endless possibilities (Having the manual at hand it’s mandatory).

Try it out…

If someone knows this game give some feedback, tks.

Cheers

If you play as France do all the buttons say surrender?

No they doesn’t in fact with some mods like Total Realism Project (or Mod 34) the game can get pretty interesting http://www.totalrealismproject.com/ http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277121&page=1

The only bad is that these mods transfer the game so that you can no longer start the scenarios like 1944 and so on but instead you have to build your game from 1936(1934) on . But they compensate a lot with your enemies becoming more smart , for example playing with Germany i was defeated by France , so France is no more the enemy which you will walk over simply to win .

Oh man I was just playing. I didn’t mean anything by it.

Ok no problem about it but the info can be useful to the new gamers who eventually like that game as the mods are really good

Good games, the Hearts of Iron Series…

it’s a very good detailled game, i play it now and then, but does anyone played hearts of iron part 3 yet ?

Yes i have played it , but in my opinion Hearts of Iron Doomsday is better with the mod mentioned above , in the new game there are a lot more provinces which make the game difficult if you are playing with Nazi Germany for example in 1942 , but there is one nice feature that you can set different HQ’s to command whole theatres of war without even you to have to intervene . For example you can wage war against USSR while at the same time to set the AI to defend your western borders ,so your attention to be only on Eastern Front .

thx for the information !

There is a mod for HOI3 (If that’s what you mean by Part 3) called DiDay’s I.C.E or simply I.C.E now but it adds a lot to the game, from special units to new research options.
Depending on the released version it’s a fairly big mod ranging between 200mb-250mb in two files.
