How accurate is the iron sight on a k98k?
I’m looking at buying a kar98k and was hoping the sights are good past 300m.

anybodys input is appriciated.

Haresplitter,

If you have very good eyesight the German style of sights can work past 300 yards. Just as the Afrikaners who fought the British with Mausers back in the Boer Wars showed everyone.

Now I am not a fan of the Mauser style sights. Yes they are simple and rugged, but take good eyes and good light to see them!

Chuckhawks has a good article on them.

Thanks for the info. Im a pretty good shot and I have pretty good eyesight so im sure it will be a great gun for an all around shooter. I’m not planing to put a scope on it so thats why I was asking about the sights.

I’d say get it!

Saw a Yugoslavian M48, real nice shape, at a pawn shop.

Might get that myself. 7.92 Mauser ammo is still cheap and to me it’s a better gun than the Russian M38 or M44. The ‘safety’ on those Russian rifles leave me cold while the winged Mauser style safety I’m used to with a Springfield '03A3.

Thanks Deaf,

For about 470$ which includes the rifle, shipping , and transfer fee I can get one from Mitchell’s Mausers. You also get a bunch of free stuff with that together is worth 380$.(strip clips, ammo pouches, cleaning kit,and some other stuff)

I was origanally going to buy a M1903A3 from the CMP because my great-grandpa used one on Midway and Bouganville.

Apparently they are in really used condition and cost alot to get them to shoot good. Im only 16 and just dont have that kind of money.:frowning:

Andrew,

One thing not to do!

Lots of gun shops have Mausers. Most are beaten up and cost maybe $200.

But, you being 16, get a good one that will last you a long time! One that you can look at was well as shoot.

Mitchells do cost, but as that includes transfer fees (I hope on both FFL ends), and other goodies, it’s not all that bad a price.

And if you get corrosive ammo, just use soapy hot water to clean the bore before you oil it. That way you can shoot lots of cheap ammo!

Oh…

‘Tanker Mausers’! Really there is no such thing but… I’ve always wanted one of those Belgium Bicycle troops 17.7 inch Mausers. Very light weight (and I bet they kick!)

It will generally be effective for anything you can actually see.

From what i see this rifle is just a normally accurate for it’s class maybe some better than the russian equivalent
