IJN submarine camouflage pattern - pictures / drawings needed

Hi
I’m new here, I live in Belgium and am a fan of Silent Hunter 4. We are currently building a fleet of IJN subs, but I have a hard time finding pictures of the type of camouflage pattern they used, if any ?

Can anyone help ?

Hi.

Following the 1/700 waterline series:

lower Hull up to waterline: red
upper hull: naval grey
wooden deck planks: teak

tom!

thanks, would you happen to have any picture ?

This isn’t my area of knowledge, but I seem to recall that the Japanese experimented with blacks and greys, and maybe other colours, to try to find the colour that gave the best camouflage on the surface and underwater viewed from the air, and that what worked best in one capacity wasn’t so good in the other. I think this may have resulted in different colours on the upper hull and conning tower for horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

I never saw color pics of japanese subs even in specialized japanese magazines like Maru Special or Gakken.

There are pics of a scale model in Gakken issue 17:
lower hull: dark red/wine-red
upper hull: naval grey
deck planking: light teak

like this scale model of a Sen Toku type sub but with a lighter grey:
