When cogitating over a signature, I wanted to link Shakespeare with WW2. I at first played about with extracts from ‘Henry V’, as Olivier had dedicated his 1945 film version of it to the British Commando and Airborne Forces. Also, there was the obvious link to ‘Band of Brothers’. However, after speaking with a friend who had been an S.O.E. operative during the war and is now affectionately known as ‘The Spy’ at the rugby club and the mess of the H.A.C., he recommended ‘Ill met by moonlight’ from Shakespeare’s ‘A Mid-summer nights dream’. The link being the title of the book (and later the film) describing the exploits of two ‘Boys Own’ S.O.E. operatives in Crete during WW2.
